First of all you have to edit /etc/rc.config if you havenīt done START_SMB = yes
Now we want to create a bunch of user accounts, directories and files.
In the end we will install MS-Office on a SAMBA-share for the whole network
New User and Group
1. Create a group samba
2. Create the user smbuser
Public Directory
1. Create the directory /home/public
2. This directory is owned by smbuser that belongs to the samba group so you have to set the SGID bit on it.
3. Everyone will have shared read and write access to this directory so the permissions should be set like so:
# chown smbuser:samba /home/public
# chmod 2777 /home/public
smb.config
This is a very simple sample file:
[global]
workgroup = Linux
guest account = everyone #this must be a valid user with no user rights!!!
keep alive = 30
os level = 2 #samba acts like a nt-server
security = user #using "share" is like per-to-per network in win95/98
printing = bsd
printcap name = /etc/printcap
load printers = yes
[homes]
comment = Heimatverzeichnis
browseable = no
read only = no
create mode = 0750
[public]
comment = public files
path = /home/public
read only = no
smbpasswd
no you have to create passwords:
smbpasswd -a user
create a new user account with the same name and password on your windoofs-client
MS-Office Network Installation
You can save much space on all your client hdds when installing most of the apps on the samba-share:
map the samba-share on your machine
